How it works

What the ATS score measures

An applicant tracking system does not read a résumé the way a person does. It parses it into fields, matches it against the posting, and hands the recruiter a shortlist. The score is built from what survives that:

Parse safetyTables, text boxes, columns, headers, images and glyphs that come out as gibberish. If the parser cannot read a section, no keyword in it counts.
Keyword fitPaste the posting and every term in it is ranked required, preferred or context. Missing required terms cost far more than missing nice-to-haves.
Measurable impactBullets that name a number, a scale or an outcome, and the weak openers ("responsible for", "worked on") that hide one.
Structure and datesThe sections a parser looks for, contact details in a readable form, and dates in a format it understands rather than one it drops.
Length and densityOne page or two, words per bullet, and the padding that pushes the thing a recruiter needs onto the second screen.
Skills coverageHow the skills are grouped and whether the ones the posting asks for appear where they carry weight, not only in a list at the bottom.

What a good score looks like

Without a posting, anything above 75 is a solid general résumé. With a posting pasted in, aim for a keyword match above 72 per cent and a required-term coverage close to full: below that, a machine screen is a coin toss whatever the writing is like. The number is not a verdict, it is a list of things to fix in an order that pays.

Questions

Is this ATS checker really free?
Yes, and there is no trial, no card and no upload. The scoring runs inside your browser, which is exactly why it costs nothing to offer. The full app, including the résumé builder, the tracker and the cover letters, is free as well.
Do you upload or store my résumé?
No. The file is opened and parsed by your own browser and is gone the moment you close the tab. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no copy of your résumé on our side at all.
Do I need an account to see the scores?
No. The two scores need nothing. Seeing the findings behind them needs an account, and a local account is a name and a passphrase kept on your own device: no email, no server, and you can make as many as you like.
Which file types work?
PDF, Word (.docx), plain text and Markdown, up to 8 MB. A scanned or photographed PDF has no text in it for anyone to read, ATS included, so export a text PDF or upload the Word file instead.
What is a good ATS score out of 100?
Above 75 is a strong general résumé. Against a specific posting, look for keyword coverage above 72 per cent with every required term present. Most résumés lose their points in the same three places: no numbers in the bullets, missing required keywords, and a layout the parser cannot read.
Does it check for AI-written text too?
Yes, on the same drop. The second meter is a free AI detector for résumés: it measures the vocabulary, phrasing and rhythm that give away default model output, and the full report names the lines and offers a plainer rewrite.
Will an ATS reject a résumé written with AI?
The tracking system will not, but the person reading it might. Recruiters are increasingly good at spotting the house style of a chatbot, and a résumé that reads like everyone else's is a weak résumé whoever wrote it. Use the AI check to put your own words back in.
